Safe and Sound Protocol
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a non-invasive auditory intervention. It involves listening to a music program that has been processed specifically to help the nervous system feel safer, become more flexible and better regulated.
Traumatic experiences can affect the way our Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) operates, leaving us more sensitive to react to cues of danger (or reminders of past dangers) from our survival states of Fight/Flight or Freeze/Shutdown
Based on the work of Dr. Stephen Porges, and his Polyvagal Theory, SSP can help with:
• Nurturing feelings of safety and helping how we engage within social relationships
• Receiving, processing and responding to cues from others
• Increasing emotional control while reducing reactivity
The SSP can provide a powerful platform for your ANS regulation. I use it regularly in my practice and have seen very good outcomes.
I also offer it to people who are engaged in therapy with a Trauma Informed therapist and are interested in accessing a body-based intervention to complement and support the work they are doing in their therapy.
